Great escape

Old Testament judgment is at the door. A foreign army prepares to march against Jerusalem, a city polluted by idolatry. As God prepares for the slaughter – Jews had rejected repeated calls by the prophet Jeremiah to repent – He does something remarkable. While sharing the gory details with Jeremiah (Jews will die by pestilence, sword and famine) the LORD softens. He offers them an escape option: defect to the Chaldeans when they besiege the city, and live. Those who don’t will perish. The good news is that God’s character does not change. He offers mercy today to spiritual rebels. Some day, perhaps soon, Yeshua (Jesus) will return to judge the world. He is the escape option. Defect to Yeshua, and live.

How will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? – Hebrews 2:3
