Meditate on these things

I work in a newspaper newsroom. CNN plays on big screens around the clock. The news is dark and depressing. I  can’t change channels at work but I can at home. Yet sometimes I don’t. I’m a news junkie, and that leads to bad-news burnout. Secular journalism is hardly a balm. I need to do a better job of following the counsel of Paul the apostle in Philippians 4:8:

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.
