Today is 14 Nisan on the Hebrew calendar, the day Yeshua (Jesus) was crucified. When He cried from the cross, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” He was quoting the first verse of Psalm 22. In rabbinic teaching when a Bible verse is quoted the entire text is implied. Yeshua was telling everyone within earshot He was the prophetic fulfillment of that Messianic psalm, which describes the crucifixion. The Son was not forsaken by the Father. Yeshua was trying to draw all men to Himself as He drew His last breaths. His invitation was open even to the religious leaders who had plotted to kill Him.
