Life and death

The Biblical feast of Shavuot starts tonight. God gave His commandments twice during this feast. He wrote them on stone tablets in the Old Testament, and on the hearts of men in the New Testament. The response was mixed. Three thousand Israelites died at Mount Sinai for worshipping a golden calf. Three thousand were saved in Jerusalem by hearing and responding to the gospel shared by Jesus’ disciples, who were filled with the Holy Spirit for the first time.

Shavuot marks the completion of the seven-week counting period that started at Passover. It is the last of the spring Biblical feasts, which Christ fulfilled with His first coming. He will fulfill the fall feasts with His second coming.
