God expresses the fullness of His mercy at Passover. Yeshua (Jesus) was crucified on the Hebrew date 14 Nisan, the same hour priests were slaughtering Passover lambs in Jerusalem. When Yeshua cried from the cross “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” He was quoting the first verse of Psalm 22. Contrary to popular teaching, the Son was not complaining to the Father. He did not feel abandoned or cut off. In rabbinic teaching, when a Bible verse is quoted the entire text is implied. He was telling everyone within earshot He was the prophetic fulfillment of that Messianic psalm, which includes the crucifixion: “They pierced My hands and My feet.” Yeshua was trying to draw all men to Himself as He drew His last breaths.
